Tim Jones - Chief Executive and Secretary
From an early career in financial services marketing and fund management for both FTSE 30 and private equity companies (including posts as MD Europe, Direct Marketing Corporation of America and Head of Marketing at Royal Life) Tim went on to found two manufacturing and distribution start-ups, building both to successful exit. He counts it a privilege to have worked in North America, the Gulf and the Balkans.
A Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, Manufactures & Commerce, an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a member of numerous financial services and marketing bodies he was awarded the Certificate in Enterprise from Judge Business School, University of Cambridge in 2007. Today he is researching the links between Socially Motivated Investment and Societal Well-being with Coventry University and at the same time is the Social Enterprise Sector Consultant to Oxford University Said Business School.
Tim is married to Jane who is a partner in the family firm, PCR – a specialist HR solutions provider for the digital media and broadcast sector.
Dr Martin Clark - Deputy Chief Executive
Martin Clark has been with Citylife since it began in 1996 and as project manager oversaw the development and launch of the first Bond in Sheffield in 1999. More recently he has driven Citylife’s diversification into social enterprise property management and the provision of business support services. He has a PhD in social geography from the University of Sheffield and worked in regeneration consultancy at a university spin-out centre. He is a member of the Partnership Board of the Greater Cambridge Partnership, a trustee of Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service, and a member of the Bishop’s Council for the Diocese of Ely. He is passionate about using social enterprise to tackle social problems, and is the author of The Social Entrepreneur Revolution (Marshall Cavendish 2009) which aims to popularise social entrepreneurship (see link on right hand side).
Phil Caroe - Chief Operating Officer
Phil joined Citylife in 2009 to bring together the communications and marketing work with the job of overseeing the delivery of Bonds and other operations issues. Prior to this he worked for the East of England Development Agency, leading communications for its economic participation programme, and before that for Relationships Foundation as a communications executive. He has a First in Social Psychology from Cambridge University and an MPhil in Psychology and Theology.
Kate Lee - Social Enterprise Manager
Kate joined Citylife in 2009 to further the organisation's social enterprise development work. Kate specialises in social impact measurement and has extensive knowledge of, and experience in, this field. She previously worked for The Social Enterprise People, managing an EEDA-funded project introducing social accounting to small organisations. Kate is also an SROI Practitioner accredited by The SROI Network; a trained Outcomes Champion with Charities Evaluation Services; and has served on the Board of, and as regional representative for, the Social Audit Network. Using this training, Kate has supported a number of social enterprises, and local district councils, to introduce impact measurement to prove their impact and improve their services.
Andy Slaymaker - Property Manager
Andrew has worked for Citylife since 2007 as Property Manager. He is a Chartered Surveyor with a Masters Degree in property Management and Development and 20 years experience in property management, development and planning. From a rural background he first worked for Cambridgeshire County Council's property department before moving to ADAS a Government department and then to private practice for property management and development companies. He is married with 3 children and enjoys mountain biking and off-road triathlons.
Jane Thompson - Communications Executive
Jane worked for Citylife previously in 2006-7 and rejoined us in 2009 to look after Citylife's overall marketing and communications. Jane has a BA in Business but focused most of her studies on Marketing, Communications and Economics. Prior to joining Citylife Jane worked at Homerton School of Health Studies then started her marketing career in member recruitment and retention at the Royal Society of Chemistry. More recently she went into partnership with a friend to buy and develop a retail business and is now looking forward to the new challenge of taking Citylife forward with their communications.
George Ruddock - Social Business Adviser
George has 40 years' experience in the social enterprise sector. He trained as a youth worker in 1968, having previously spent 10 years working in Youth Service and ending up as an Area Community Liaison Officer in Liverpool. He moved into the social enterprise sector in 1979 and spent 16 years as managing director of a charity in the Elephant & Castle area of London. George then co-founded Recycle-IT!, which became the largest not-for-profit social enterprise in Europe recycling computer equipment, and won a host of social enterprise and conventional business awards. In 2006 George became a social enterprise consultant within the social enterprise sector. His first client was the Social Enterprise Loan Fund (TSELF), where he managed a £2m Social Enterprise Loan Fund on their behalf for London Objective2 Wards, helping social enterprises expand and develop.
Ray Rook - Financial Controller
Ray has over 20 years experience of financial control including public practice and commerce. His knowledge of audit, accounts, payroll and credit control brings robust financial management to Citylife.
Christine Nottage - Administrative Assistant
Christine has a background as Facilities Manager for a large IT company who then went on to manage a housing project for the elderly and worked as a volunteer support worker for a charity helpline supporting families in crisis. Christine initially joined Citylife on a temporary basis but soon got captivated by Citylife's work - once Citylife moved to Citylife House her skills in facilities management became vital as we settled into our new home.
